Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

 

'Why do they have to wait until someone is killed to make laws'

Linda Rudnicki died in a crash blamed on street racing on a Sunday night in June 2005. Memories of the crash were evoked by a serious collision Sunday, allegedly caused by street racers on the same busy stretch of Portage Avenue. Two people were injured.

Ruth Rudnicki, Linda’s mother, was both disappointed and concerned after learning about Sunday’s incident. Some of the circumstances were similar to the crash that claimed her daughter’s life.

'It just lends so much realism and excitement to be on that ship'

The Manitoba Underground Opera company has taken over the Nonsuch at the Manitoba Museum for four sold-out shows starting Wednesday night. The show is The Corsair, by Giuseppe Verdi, which is about pirates in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Nonsuch is a replica of the 17th-century fur-trading ship that has been the Manitoba Museum’s centrepiece since it docked there in 1974.
