Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:

'Do these institutions not give a damn?'

Since 2003, police officers in Manitoba have shot and killed 29 people. But just 14 inquests into these deaths have been completed.

Judges opted not to make recommendations in nine of the 14 inquests; when recommendations were made, they sometimes simply urged a party to “consider” adopting a particular policy, rather than actually implementing it.

'New leadership and new purpose'

Adam Lowry is the new captain of the Winnipeg Jets, the third in Jets 2.0 history.

“It’s a huge honour to know that management, coaching staff and your teammates have the belief in you that you are the right guy, and you’re going to be the guy to steady the ship when things don’t necessarily go our way, or when we hit some difficult patches throughout the season,” Lowry said following an introductory news conference at Canada Life Centre on Tuesday.

“I am really looking forward to taking on that challenge.”

'This still isn’t our final form'

Friends Mischa Decter and Kadin Gray have launched a Jewish deli-inspired sandwich shop called Primo’s Deli inside the Good Will Social Club.

While bagels were the initial idea, Decter and Gray decided to put a spin on the classic delicatessen model. Primo’s aims to go beyond meat, bread and mustard with unexpected flavour combinations and decidedly more greens.
