Cyber thieves have stolen decades’ worth of personal and financial information from students and faculty members at the University of Winnipeg.

University officials confirmed Thursday that data from an internal file server was compromised.

Employees from as long as 20 years ago may be affected, and students as far back as 2016.

The stolen data includes students’ names, birth dates, street addresses, social insurance numbers, tuition amounts. For employees, it includes salary and banking information as well.

Federal party leaders seem to be flocking to Winnipeg to pose for photos with Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew.

Last week, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre met with Kinew for more than an hour at the legislature ahead of his “Axe the tax” rally.

This morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in the city for a housing announcement with Kinew, and in the afternoon NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh appeared at the Manitoba legislature for a photo op, giving Kinew a double-clasp handshake.

Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar will offer “globally inspired shareable plates” such as pork belly sliders and watermelon feta salad in the building at 456 Main St., formerly home to Mexican eatery La Carnita.

Julian Pellicano will lead the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on a journey of famous movie music this weekend, from Gone with the Wind and West Side Story to the James Bond film franchise.

The Blockbuster Scores concert will follow the history of music in movies, beginning with an overture from Captain Blood, the 1935 Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland pirate classic, and including tunes from Lawrence of Arabia, The Magnificent Seven, The Godfather, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Apollo 13, The Lord of the Rings, Interstellar and more.

“I thought it would be cool to do a show where we go in chronological order through some of the first films when they had the technology to actually put a film, dialogue and music on the filmstrip and have it synchronized,” says Pellicano, who will step down from the WSO at the end of this season.
