'Get ready to leave on short notice'
About 250 residents of a Portage Avenue apartment complex were ordered to evacuate the building Thursday evening after engineers determined the structure was at risk of collapsing.
Owners of about 40 homes near the building were put on alert that they may be asked to leave their homes on short notice.

'They had found something of interest'
The trial of admitted serial killer Jeremy Skibicki heard details Friday about the exhaustive search to find the remains of his victims in Winnipeg-area landfills.
Dean Pritchard was in court to hear police testimony about the days-long search of Brady Road landfill in the in the summer of 2022 before officers found partial remains of Rebecca Contois, and the hurdles facing police in searching the Prairie Green landfill for the remains of other victims.

'I really enjoyed myself'
Stephen Eric McIntyre, a beloved presence in Winnipeg’s theatre, film and television scenes, as well as a pioneer of local improv comedy, died Thursday at age 63.
McIntyre performed for more than 40 years, appearing in dozens of local theatre productions and onscreen alongside similarly magnetic, intense actors such as Robin Williams, John Turturro, Michael Fassbender and Bob Odenkirk.

'What a nice mare she was'
Manitoba horse breeders got a huge moral boost last Saturday when Mystik Dan, an 18-1 shot loaded with Manitoba-bred blood, won a nail-biting three-horse photo finish in the 150th running of the $5 million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
The horse has a pedigree filled with a full line of Manitoba-bred mares, thanks to the late Phil Kives, founder of K-tel and widely acknowledged as the father of the modern infomercial.
