Pam Frampton
Pam Frampton was born in a small Newfoundland outport and grew up surrounded by stacks of books. That’s still how she lives life.
An honours degree in English literature from Memorial University of Newfoundland led to her tripping into a career in print, where she has worked as a reporter and more kinds of editor than you can shake a thesaurus at.
A former managing editor for the St. John’s Telegram — and the first woman to hold that position — she has worked with some fine journalists, helped put out more than a few fires, and kindled a few, too (with words, that is).
Her super power involves being able to concentrate in the middle of a busy newsroom, though these days she’s given up the daily din for a home office and a freelance career.
An award-winning columnist, she has been writing for the Free Press since September 2023. She writes a separate column for newspapers in Atlantic Canada, including the St. John’s Telegram, the Cape Breton Post and the Charlottetown Guardian.
Pam was literary chair of the former Cuffer Prize for short fiction in Newfoundland, and is the editor of the seven published short-story anthologies that resulted from that competition.
When she isn’t reading and writing, she is usually working in the garden for the few months of the year that Newfoundland weather allows, trying out a new recipe, sampling wines, plotting her next travel adventure, or having anxiety dreams about missing deadlines.
