Manitoba has declared a second state of emergency as wildfires continue to rage, displacing thousands. Several organizations are still accepting donations, co-ordinating volunteers and distributing supplies.

Here’s how you can help:

Where to donate

Canadian Red Cross

As of July 4, donations to the Red Cross for Manitoba wildfire relief totalled $8.8 million. That figure doesn’t include matched funds. The federal and provincial governments promised to match Red Cross donations until June 27.

Donate on the Red Cross website or by phone at 1-800-418-1111.

The Winnipeg Foundation

The Winnipeg Foundation established a 2025 Manitoba Wildfire Response Fund and committed an initial $300,000 to it.

Manitoba Métis Federation

The Manitoba Métis Federation is accepting donations of new clothing for wildfire evacuees.

Drop off donations at 25 Ray Marius Rd. in the Transcona Industrial Park area. Donation centre hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week as of July 11.

Winnipeg Humane Society

Donations for displaced pets can be dropped off at the Winnipeg Humane Society at 45 Hurst Way. The Humane Society is not fostering pets displaced by wildfires but is continuing to provide pet supplies.

A full list of necessary supplies is available on their website.

City of Winnipeg Animal Services

The City of Winnipeg animal services department is collecting donations in partnership with Veterinarians Without Borders for animals affected by wildfires. Donate here.

How to volunteer

The Manitoba Métis Federation is co-ordinating volunteers in Winnipeg to help distribute supplies and take on other tasks as part of the emergency response for evacuees.

Call the MMF’s volunteer co-ordination line at 431-294-7452.

Thousands affected by storm-related power outages

Thousands are still without power in Winnipeg after high winds and thunderstorms knocked out power lines Sunday.

About 4,000 Manitoba Hydro customers were still dealing with outages this morning after crews worked to restore power in the Westwood and River Heights areas, Hydro spokesman Peter Chura said. On Sunday, Hydro reported outages affecting approximately 6, 700 customers.

The high winds and heavy rain brought down trees and broke power poles, causing "very severe damage," in River Heights, one of the hardest-hit neighbourhoods, while some of the damage in the Westwood area appeared to be caused by lightning strikes, Chura said.

Thunderstorms rolled in at about 6 p.m. Sunday and brought heavy rain and high winds to some areas of the province. Winnipeg received about 35 mm of rain, while some areas got almost double that. More than 62 mm was recorded at The Forks and 68.8 mm was recorded at Portage Southport, according to Environment Canada.

Four teens dead in crash near Winnipeg Beach

Four teenagers have died in a highway crash near Winnipeg Beach.

Manitoba RCMP are investigating the two-vehicle collision, which happened at about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 6. A vehicle travelling west on Highway 229 was struck while crossing Highway 8, RCMP stated in a news release Monday.

Everyone inside the westbound vehicle died at the scene, including the driver, an 18-year-old female from Winnipeg, and three passengers: an 18-year-old male from Gimli, an 18-year-old female from Sandy Hook and a 17-year-old male from Ear Falls, Ont.

The intersection is controlled by stop signs for westbound and eastbound traffic. Both vehicles went into the southwest ditch, with one vehicle rolling and landing on its roof, RCMP stated.
