Robert Archambeau: Teacher / Mentor / Colleague / Friend – Keynote Presentation with Robert Harrison

Join the School of Art Gallery for a celebratory evening in honour of Robert Archambeau, one of Canada’s most influential ceramic artists.

Robert Harrison had a 50-year friendship with Robert Archambeau that began when he enrolled in ceramics courses taught by Archambeau at the School of Art. Their relationship transitioned to mentor/colleague and to the subsequent friendship that grew over the many years.

Using images, memories and storytelling, Robert Harrison will recall the exciting early to mid-1970’s at the School of Art, and the camaraderie that formed in the ceramics studio under the direction of Robert Archambeau.

Harrison recalls the outstanding faculty and fellow students, along with ceramics-based activities that shaped the development of young talented ceramic artists and how Robert Archambeau encouraged and exposed his students to the evolving contemporary ceramics scene in Canada, the United States and beyond.

Robert Harrison is a practicing artist who lives and works in Helena, Montana, USA. He has built his 40+ year career in the site-specific large-scale architectural sculpture realm along with smaller-scale studio activity. He holds BFA from the University of Manitoba and MFA from University of Denver in Ceramics and is a member of the IAC (International Academy of Ceramics, Geneva), WABA (World Association of Brick Artists), RCA (Royal Canadian Academy of Arts) and is a Fellow of NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramics Arts). His exhibition and installation record is extensive and global. His book, Sustainable Ceramics: A Practical Guide, was co-published by Bloomsbury (London) and the American Ceramic Society (Ohio) in the fall of 2013. Robert is currently working on several large-scale site-specific projects both nationally and internationally along with his ongoing exploration of studio work.
