Josiah Neufeld
Religion reporter
Josiah Neufeld covers issues of faith in Manitoba and nationally for the Winnipeg Free Press and Broadview as part of a joint Religion in the News partnership.
Neufeld is the author of The Temple at the End of the Universe, a journalistic memoir about climate change and his search for spirituality in a beautiful world that’s under threat.
He is fascinated by religion and spirituality — how faith can make people feel like they’re part of something larger than themselves, provide them with a sense of identity, connect them to community, and move them to action.
He’s written about rising seas in Bangladesh, popular uprisings in Burkina Faso, and Mennonites in Saskatchewan organizing to stop a uranium refinery from being built on their farmland. His journalism has earned a Canadian National Magazine Award and an Amnesty International Media Award.
He enjoys reading, canoeing, and discussing books with his two children who will tell you that every good story—whether fiction or nonfiction—has three essential ingredients: a character, a desire, and an obstacle.
He likes listening to people tell their stories.
