Nicole Buffie is a reporter for the Free Press city desk.

Nicole joined the paper as a multimedia producer in 2023. Before that, she cut her teeth at newspapers across southern Manitoba and, for a while, produced digital stories for a local broadcaster.

She’s chased down politicians (and witnessed their arrest), walked through an orchard growing genetically modified apples (and taste-tested them for quality assurance) and driven countless kilometers across the prairies (even if the weather demanded she didn’t) – all for a good story. She earned a Canadian Community Newspaper Award along the way.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Nicole was once an ardent reader of the Free Press; she’s now a zealous writer.
