Russell Wangersky

Perspectives editor

Russell Wangersky is an editor, columnist and author who has worked at newspapers in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Saskatchewan before settling in the geographic middle of the country.

A seven-time National Newspaper Award finalist for opinion writing, Wangersky has held virtually every editing position that newspapers have, except for photo editor, lifestyles editor, and sports editor. But there’s still time…

His eight books include three short story collections, two novels, and three works of non-fiction, including an award-winning memoir of his years as a volunteer firefighter. Sharp Corner, a short story from his Scotiabank/Giller finalist Whirl Away, is scheduled to be released as a feature film in 2024.

His latest book is Same GroundFinding Family on the California Gold Rush Trail, which retraces the route across western America described in the diary of his great-great-grandfather, William Castle Dodge, a miner in the 1849 gold rush.
