Flag football has come a long way from the pick-up games of pigskin that often featured just strips of cloth tucked into waistbands.

A sport that now has global appeal, flag football will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Football Manitoba’s efforts to grow the sport saw it host free camps as part of an outreach to Indigenous youth and kids who were new to Canada.

While the camps held at the University of Winnipeg earlier this week won’t fill roster spots on Canada’s Olympic team three years from now, maybe some of those kids will go on to represent the country’s flag at future games.
