Description of Duties

  • Write and curate news of the day in engaging formats with content tailored to specific platforms.
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors and digital developers to produce compelling, user-friendly journalistic packages for digital platforms using text, images, graphics and video.
  • Initiate and develop ideas for projects in conjunction with supervising editors. Ensure all projects are completed on deadline and meet high standards of accuracy, fairness and comprehensiveness.
  • Gather, verify, organize and publish user-generated content.
  • Monitor social media and actively engage with community on social media platforms for content creation, promotion and audience engagement.
  • Track, interpret and respond to analytics.
  • Take direction and assist colleagues; other general duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary journalism accreditation or equivalent daily newspaper experience.
  • Strong news judgment; proven ability to manage fast-moving information.
  • Familiarity digital storytelling tools. Direct experience with WordPress and/or HTML an asset.
  • Proficiency with Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok and other social media platforms.
  • Experience working with data to create visualizations such as maps, charts, graphs and timelines an asset.
  • Able to work a variety of shifts — including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays — under deadline pressure.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively. Skilled at multi-tasking, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Passion for journalism, storytelling and design.
