Greetings! Bonjour! Bozhoo! Tansi! Tawnshi! Hau!
My name is Niigaan Sinclair and I’ve been a columnist covering politics and life here in Winnipeg and Manitoba — with an eye to Indigenous communities and reconciliation — since 2018.
My newsletter Biidaajimowin: News from the Centre takes its name from the Ojibway for “news.” It’s a space to explore complex and wide-ranging voices, perspectives, and experiences of Indigenous communities across Canada and the United States.
Indigenous rights, culture, and struggles affect and include every single person on this continent. Biidaajimowin helps readers understand these issues while highlighting the ways Indigenous people are shaping conversations about social justice, addressing historical injustices, advancing education, and driving reconciliation.
Each edition brings you stories from Indigenous communities at home and abroad, along with real-life, local examples of reconciliation happening in real time.
From the heart of Turtle Island to the world, Biidaajimowin offers a unique lens to understand news from the centre.
