The Canadian Press 3 minute read Saturday, May. 2, 2026

GENEVA - Canada’s Kadriana and Colton Lott are world championship medallists.

The married duo from Gimli, Man., earned a dominant 11-3 victory over Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner on Saturday to win bronze at the world mixed doubles curling championship.

The win marked Canada’s first medal at the world championship since 2019. It also marked Colton Lott’s second international medal of the 2025-26 season, after winning silver last month playing third for Team Matt Dunstone at the men's worlds.

“To share this together, to go on world stages to different parts of the world, it's something we want to continue, and we'll cherish these moments forever throughout our lives,” said Kadriana Lott, who earned her first career world medal. “Just super proud of us, and I'm happy to have that medal around our necks and happy to be standing at the podium at the end of this week.”

The Canadian Press 2 minute read Friday, May. 1, 2026

GENEVA - Canada will not compete for its first world curling mixed doubles gold medal this year after a 6-4 loss to Sweden in semifinal action on Friday.

The Gimli, Man., team of Kadriana and Colton Lott trailed the Swedes 5-2 after giving up a steal of three in the fifth end.

The Canadians scored two in the sixth to cut into Sweden's lead, but Therese Westman and Robin Ahlberg put the game away with a point in the seventh.

“I thought we had a good game and we made lots of good shots,” Kadriana Lott said. “There were just some rocks that we didn’t get on the right side of the inch. They played well, and it was a very good mixed doubles game.

Canada into mixed doubles curling semifinals with wins over Czechia, Switzerland

The Canadian Press 3 minute read Thursday, Apr. 30, 2026

GENEVA - Canada earned a direct spot into the world mixed doubles curling championship semifinals after finishing the preliminary round with a pair of wins on Thursday.

Kadriana and Colton Lott followed a nervy 6-5 extra-end win over Czechia in the day's early draw to a more comfortable 10-5 win over Switzerland in the evening.

The wins ensured the husband-and-wife duo from Gimli, Man., would finish atop the Group B standings at 8-1. The top teams from each group advance directly to Friday’s semifinals, while the second- and third-place teams meet in a qualifying round.

"Couldn't be more proud. I think it makes it better that we're teammates, we're a couple, we're partners," Kadriana Lott said of teaming up with her husband. "It's great to do what we do and to travel and play on this surface together. It’s a huge feeling."

Curling Canada to look at timing of national championships in Olympic seasons

Donna Spencer, Gregory Strong, The Canadian Press 6 minute read Thursday, Apr. 30, 2026

With a new quadrennial set to begin, one of many things on Curling Canada's to-do list is tackling a glaring inequality with its Olympic teams in 2026.

Rachel Homan's team was unable to defend its Scotties Tournament of Hearts title in Mississauga, Ont., last season and also missed out on a chance to go for back-to-back world titles. The Jan. 23-Feb. 1 Canadian playdowns were tight against the Milan-Cortina Olympics.

Women's round-robin play started Feb. 12 at the Games. The national women's championship is traditionally played in mid-February.

Curling Canada required Homan, the Trials winner, to be in Italy for a training camp ahead of Olympic competition. Her team went on to win a bronze medal in Cortina.

Key steal of three leads Canada over Germany 7-4 at mixed doubles worlds

The Canadian Press 2 minute read Wednesday, Apr. 29, 2026

GENEVA - A steal of three points in the third end led Canada’s Kadriana and Colton Lott to a 7-4 win over Germany on Wednesday at the world mixed doubles curling championship.

Germany's Kim Sutor and Sixten Totzek opened with the hammer and scored two in the first end.

After the Lotts managed just one point in the second, the husband-and-wife duo from Gimli, Man., broke the game open in the third when they drew for three behind cover, and the Germans missed on their final shot.

"That definitely gave us control of the game," Colton Lott said. "Once we had the lead, we never let go. It was a great way to start strong."

"We do notice there are areas that we're going to work on, but now we feel more comfortable knowing what the ice is doing going into (Sunday).”

BRIANE Harris was hopeful she’d land with a contender on the women’s circuit this off-season.

The four-time Scotties champion — who most recently played third for Kate Cameron — explored her options, but the ideal situation didn’t present itself.

Thankfully for the 34-year-old, she had an offer on the table from Kyle Doering to make the switch to mixed doubles. The pair of Manitobans recently announced they’re joining forces.

“I didn’t think I had any good (four-person) fits in the works, so I was like ‘You know what, let’s go with Kyle,’” Harris said Thursday.

The Gimli, Man., couple have won two gold, two silver and a bronze at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships since 2019, and now hope to capture Canada’s first title at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in Geneva, Switzerland, starting Saturday.

“Obviously, Canada hasn’t won gold in this discipline and that’s what we’re setting out to do. We couldn’t be more hungry and driven to do so,” Colton Lott said on a media call Tuesday.

The Lotts posted an 8-1 record at the 2024 world championship but failed to medal.

When Matt Dunstone and Erin Pincott pack up their things in Kamloops and move to Winnipeg later this year, the Brier champion won’t be the only one returning to his roots.

In a way, Pincott will be, too.

Her family tree goes through Manitoba with her grandparents meeting in Flin Flon before raising a family out west.

Her grandfather, Grant Young — who passed away in 2009 — represented B.C. at the 1981 Brier, playing lead for Barry McPhee, and helped ensure the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

“It wasn’t a complete surprise. I had a sense there would be changes to the team moving forward,” Sweeting told the Free Press.
