Canada falls 3-1 to host Thailand in women’s Volleyball Nations League
1 minute read 1:18 PM CDTBANGKOK - Canada's women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to host Thailand in Volleyball Nations League play on Saturday.
Canada dropped the opening set 25-21 before evening the match with a 25-22 victory in the second. Thailand responded by taking the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20.
Thailand held advantages in attack points (55-47), aces (6-4) and points off errors, capitalizing on 29 Canadian errors compared with 16 of its own. Canada led in blocks (17-7).
The Canadian women are now 2-1 in Week 2 of VNL action and 4-3 overall after opening the tournament with a 2-2 record in Quebec City earlier this month.

3 minute read 4:28 AM CDTWELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The Hurricanes beat the Chiefs 60-5 to win their second Super Rugby title a decade after the first, leaving no doubt Saturday they are the best attacking team in the competition's history.
The Wellington-based team played with a northerly gale at their back in the first half and had four tries and a 29-0 lead by halftime. They added five more into the wind in the second half including doubles to winger Josh Moorby and flyhalf Ruben Love.
The Hurricanes scored 113 tries in 17 matches in 2026 and finished as the first team in Super Rugby's 30-year history to score more than 100 tries in a season.
Fehi Fineanganofo's first-half try was his 17th of the season and gave him the individual record for most tries in a season until his teammate Moorby scored a try in each half to join him on that number.

After Cecilia Zandalasini made a 3-pointer following a Golden State timeout, Olivia Miles made two free throws for the Lynx (13-3), then blocked Zandalasin's 3-point attempt moments later.
Zandalasini scored a career-high 23 points and Gabby Williams had 15 points and eight rebounds for Golden State (10-6).
Miles' three-point play with 6:56 left put Minnesota ahead 71-64 then Gabby Williams made a 3-pointer with 6:06 to go as the teams traded baskets down the stretch.

Washington snapped New York's eight-game winning streak, stunning the Liberty 86-83 on Friday night. It ended a 10-game regular-season losing streak to New York dating to 2023.
It was the second time in the past few games that Washington was able to close out a team in the final seconds, thanks in huge part to the play of second-year players Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen. Iriafen returned to the lineup after missing the last few games with a sprained ankle.
“Huge signs of growth,” coach Sydney Johnson said. “We lost a heartbreaker against Indiana. (Caitlin) Clark made a huge shot — big time play there. We are trying to find ways where we can get better. ... Part of this journey we’re on together. I'm proud of them. We applied some of the things we learned.”

(AP) — Marina Mabrey scored a career-high 37 points and tied the WNBA single-game record with nine 3-pointers and the expansion Toronto Tempo overcame a 16-point deficit in the second half to beat the Connecticut Sun 101-97 on Friday night.
Mabrey scored 21 of her points in the fourth quarter as the Tempo made their big comeback. She was 9 of 12 overall from 3-point range and had four rebounds and four assists.
Temi Fagbenle shot 8 for 9 from the floor and finished with 19 points and had nine rebounds. Maria Conde also scored 19 points and had six rebounds off the bench.
Connecticut jumped out to a 50-37 halftime lead, but Toronto outscored the Sun 64-47 in the second half to pull away down the stretch and snap a three-game skid.

Kiki Iriafen’s late layup lifts the Mystics past New York 86-83, snapping the Liberty’s streak
2 minute read Yesterday at 8:52 PM CDTNEW YORK (AP) — Kiki Iriafen scored 20 points, including a go-ahead layup with 27 seconds left to give the Washington Mystics an 86-83 win over New York on Friday night, snapping the Liberty's eight-game winning streak.
With the game tied at 83, Iriafen was found under the basket by Sonia Citron for a lay-in. Breanna Stewart tried to even the score but missed a contested layup with 14 seconds left. Iriafen then hit oen of two free throws two seconds later.
New York (11-5) had two chances to tie the game, but Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally's 3-pointers were both off the mark.
Iriafen had missed the last three games while dealing with an ankle injury she suffered against Indiana on June 8.
