Moira Somers
Winnipeg financial psychologist
"Lately I've been spending my spare time poring over books such as Vintage Cottages by Molly Hyde English and Cabin, Cottage and Camp: New Designs on the Canadian Landscape by Christopher McDonald. Having passed much of 2011 trying to salvage our beloved cottage that was affected by the Lake Manitoba flood, I seem to have developed an urgent need for a restored vision of beauty and serenity in a lake setting. The books are all lovely, of course, but ridiculously off-target for our situation. What would be truly useful are titles such as Post-Apocalyptic Cottages or Landscaping Your Monstrously Ugly Dike. Alas, they are nowhere to be found. In their absence, I keep returning to Barbara Fredrickson's self-help book, Positivity, one of my perennial favourites for help in nurturing a healthy outlook."
