At least two people have been taken into custody following a series of police raids at Winnipeg head shops.
Members of the RCMP and Winnipeg police executed a search warrant around 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Joint on St. Mary’s Rd. A Free Press photographer observed two women being led away from the scene by plainclothes officers.
Police also backed a U-Haul truck up to the location and appeared to be seizing numerous items from inside.
Similar searches were being conducted at two other Joint locations on Pembina Highway and Marion Street.
Winnipeg police confirmed this is an ongoing RCMP investigation which they are assisting in. The RCMP haven’t released any details on the operation but are expected to later this afternoon.
According to their website, The Joint has two other stores in Winnipeg on Pembina Highway and Marion Street in addition to a new location in Saskatoon.
Their slogan is “The Dopest Headshop on the Prairies” and they boast of carrying “a wide range of smoking paraphernalia including but not limited to bongs, pipes, bubblers, Winnipeg’s largest selection of papers and bluntarillos, vaporizers, bowls, grinders, scales, baggies, stash containers, detox kits, hookahs and more.”
