People form in a line as they wait for the opening of the second Hennes & Mauritz store in Japan in 2008.
WINNIPEG — H & M is coming to Winnipeg.
The Swedish clothing retailer with 1,800 stores in 33 countries is bringing its wildly successful concept of fashion and quality at the best price to Polo Park.
The chain already has 51 stores in Canada, but the Winnipeg location will be the first between Southern Ontario and Alberta.
H & M’s website is advertising available jobs in Winnipeg, including a store manager.

That's great they're bringing it to Winnipeg... now, if they could just get a "Deb" and "Torrid/Hot topic" type store up here, I'd never ever go down to the states again for shopping (just the weather!). I'd love it if we have 'cheap' stores here like down in grand forks. Shirts $5, jeans $20, buy one get one free... they'd make a killing. Guess this is one step in the right direction!

An H&M here will be great. I used to shop there all the time in Germany, and wondered why we never had one here in Winnipeg. Don't tell me Winnipeg is catching up with what was going on in the rest of the world 10 years ago!!!
As well, for those of you who call people sheep and materialistic - I have a couple of potato sacks for you to be indivdiualistic and thrifty in. Don't be so bloody judgmental!! It's not like we're spending your money!!
Have a great weekend, all.

Wow, I was speculating that H&M would be one of the big retailers to come in to the Elms... guess that won't be. Good for Polo Park, though.

This is awesome! If there are already 51 stores in Canada why does it always take so long for these stores to arrive here? This is so not a "well to do" store. It is a European fashionable, stylish store that is very affordable. It will do very well here.
We could still use a Zara, Mango, BCBG, Abercrombie, and Nine West. Banana Republic would also be great!
Sorry but if people are willing to spend 90 dollars on workout pants (they sweat in) at Lululemon they should care to spend a little more on their work clothes. This warehouse town of ours needs to have a greater selection of clothes so people don't have to wait till they go on shopping trips in other cities in Canada!

Myopinion what are you talking about waste of taxpayers money. How is costing taxpayers anything?

H&M is a great store, hopefully they build a good sized store. I recently visited H&M in Montreal and noticed that they have different store sizes with drastically different selections. Clothes are decent there. Nice mens button ups for under $30.

Wow this is exciting. for the person who said they would shop at Walmart - H & M isn't an expensive store it's a cheap clothing store. Also for the person who thinks there aren't other stores for another mall. There are so many stores Winnipeg does not have - Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Forever 21, Bath & Body etc. It will keep people shopping in Winnipeg instead of travelling to the States if we have all these stores.
