Pilot walks away from ultralight plane crash

A 75-year-old pilot from Ashern walked away without injury after his ultralight plane hit hydro lines and crashed near Highway 6 this morning.

RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said that the plane crashed about two kilometres south of Ashern around 8:20 a.m.

"The pilot, identified as a 75-year-old man from Ashern walked away without injury. He was the sole occupant on-board the plane," Karpish said. "Early indications are that the pilot experienced mechanical difficulties. The pilot attempted to land the plane to a nearby local air strip, however, while descending, the plane came into contact with a hydro line and made a forced landing in a field near Highway 6."

Karpish said that there is no indication of power outages in the area.

Transport Safety Board and the RCMP are continuing to investigate. The name of the pilot is not being released.
