A 75-year-old pilot from Ashern walked away without injury after his ultralight plane hit hydro lines and crashed near Highway 6 this morning.

RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said that the plane crashed about two kilometres south of Ashern around 8:20 a.m.

“The pilot, identified as a 75-year-old man from Ashern walked away without injury. He was the sole occupant on-board the plane,” Karpish said. “Early indications are that the pilot experienced mechanical difficulties. The pilot attempted to land the plane to a nearby local air strip, however, while descending, the plane came into contact with a hydro line and made a forced landing in a field near Highway 6.”
