WINNIPEG — The Mounties are investigating the alleged sexual abuse of nearly a dozen children over a seven-year period in the rural municipality of Cartier, west of Winnipeg.
Police arrested a 19-year-old man from an area Hutterite colony on Aug. 9 and charged him with 60 criminal code offences, including:
- 21 counts of sexual assault,
- 19 counts of sexual interference,
- 11 counts of invitation to sexual touching,
- two counts of forcible confinement,
- five counts of administering a noxious substance,
- one count of juvenile prostitution, and
- one count of indecent exposure.
The man is currently being held in custody at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre.
RCMP said the offences occurred between 2002 and July 2009 in the RM of Cartier. A total of 11 male victims have been identified; they were between the ages of eight and 14 when the offences occurred.
The 19-year-old suspect, who was not named, faces 38 charges as a youth and 22 as an adult.
