For once, the fire-breathing and tongue-dragging at city hall will not be of the figurative variety.
KISS bassist Gene Simmons is the latest celebrity to earn a key to the City of Winnipeg.
At Wednesday at noon, St. Vital Coun. Gord Steeves — acting on behalf of Mayor Sam Katz — will present Simmons with a key to the city, adding the rock singer and reality-TV star to a list of luminaries that also includes actor Henry Winkler, musician and activist Sir Bob Geldof, Olympian Jon Montgomery and Winnipeg Blue Bomber receiver Milt Stegall.
Born in Haifa, Israel, Simmons is best known as the KISS singer-bassist but has recently appeared on TV’s Gene Simmons: Family Jewels.
Katz, ironically, is in Israel right now to attend a conference. Steeves, who is seeking the Tory nomination for the provincial riding of Seine River, has been tapped to present the key.
