Meanwhile, down on the farm, Jets sign four
WHILE they were taking a day away from adding players to their own roster, the Winnipeg Jets have inked four players for their AHL affiliate in St. John's.
The St. John's IceCaps will be bringing back centre John Albert 23, as well as defenceman Jake Marto.
The team has also agreed to terms with forwards Hunter Tremblay and Ryan Schnell.
Albert, originally an Atlanta draft pick, had a fine rookie pro season in St. John's with nine goals and 27 points, while Marto, from Grand Forks, N.D., split his time between the IceCaps and ECHL Colorado Eagles.
Caps sign 2 centres
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington Capitals re-signed restricted free-agent centres Mathieu Perreault and Jay Beagle on Thursday.
Perreault received a two-year contract worth US$2.1 million. Beagle got a three-year deal worth $2.7 million.
Blues, Perron have deal
ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues have come to terms with restricted free agent David Perron, signing the 24-year-old winger to a four-year, US$15.25 contract on Thursday.
The 6-0, 200-pound winger had 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points last season. Despite missing 25 regular-season games with concussion problems, the Sherbrooke, Que., native was the second-leading goal scorer and fifth-best point producer on a Blues team that finished second in the Western Conference before falling in the second round of the playoffs.
Flames, Backlund agree
CALGARY -- The Calgary Flames announced Thursday that they have signed forward Mikael Backlund to a one-year contract worth US$725,000.
Backlund had four goals and seven assists in 41 games for Calgary last season. He has 15 goals and 31 assists in 138 career games with the Flames.
The native of Vasteras, Sweden, was the Flames' first round pick (24th overall) in the 2007 NHL draft.
