REGINA – Convicted rapist and murderer Larry Fisher does not want to be considered for parole.

According to a letter from the National Parole Board, Fisher has asked the board to cancel a hearing expected to take place in June.

The letter says offenders can cancel their hearings for many reasons, but does not specifically say what prompted Fisher’s decision.

In 1999, Fisher was convicted in the rape and murder 30 years earlier of Saskatoon nursing aide Gail Miller – a crime for which David Milgaard wrongfully spent 23 years in prison.

Fisher was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 10 years and passed on his first shot at freedom two years ago.

The parole board says it anticipates having a full parole review for Fisher in May 2011.
