Work on Convention Centre expansion to begin this year

WINNIPEG — Work will get underway before the end of this year on the $180-million-plus expansion of the Winnipeg Convention Centre after the WCC confirmed today that Stuart Olson Dominion Construction has been awarded the contract to design and build the new addition.

In a brief statement issued late this afternoon, the WCC said Stuart Olson has signed a letter of engagement agreeing to design and build the new addition for a guaranteed maximum price of $147 million.

The statement doesn’t say what the remaining $33-million will be spent on.

It said the new addition is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2015.
