Who are they: The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre.
What do they do: Ma Mawi provides preventative and supportive services to aboriginal families in Winnipeg through three primary community centres offering 50 programs. Ma Mawi sees thousands of clients each year, offering emergency services, parenting classes, employment training, advocacy and age-specific programming. Ma Mawi offers two Christmas dinners, one at Thunderbird House and one at its McGregor Street location. Ma Mawi also offers 225 Christmas food hampers to area residents in need.
In their own words: We serve clients who come into our community centres with just about anything, whether they have run out of milk and can't afford to buy more, to basic training, to advocacy issues.
Their Christmas hope: That every child and family has a safe and happy holiday season, together and basking in each other's love.
How you can help: Ma Mawi accepts cash donations and donations of healthy snacks for its youth New Year's Eve party at the St. James YMCA-YWCA. Ma Mawi also needs volunteers. Donations can be dropped off at 94 McGregor St., or call 925-0300. See www.mamawi.com for more information.
