Mother flees with child after man makes grab for baby seat

A man made a grab for a baby’s stroller seat restraints after a mom didn’t give him the cigarettes he wanted.

While both the mom and infant are okay, Winnipeg police are looking for the man.

Police said today the 20-year-old woman was pushing her infant in a stroller on King Street near Dufferin Avenue at about 10:10 a.m., when a man came up behind her and demanded cigarettes.

Police said when the woman didn’t give him cigarettes, the man reached towards the stroller’s safety restraints.

Police said the woman was able to flee with her child before calling police.

The man is described as aboriginal, aged 25 or 26, medium build, and wearing dark blue jeans and a black and red hooded sweater.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
