ATTENTION Safeway shoppers: there could be a special on Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon in aisle one of the Liquor Mart Express this summer.

Canada Safeway will christen the first mini-liquor store inside a Manitoba grocery store this summer at its 2155 Pembina Highway location.

The innovation was first announced last November. Construction of the 755-square-foot store is expected to begin shortly.

Because of their smaller footprints, the mini-stores won’t be able to stock the same breadth of product as full-sized liquor stores, but they will offer a selection of beer, wine and spirits.

They will also save customers time when they decide to pick up a bottle of wine to drink with dinner.

“Based on our experience providing this service in many of our stores across North America, we have every confidence that this new addition will prove to be both popular and a tremendous success,” said Scott Chollak, Safeway’s vice-president of retail operations.

The MLCC is looking to open other mini-stores in Winnipeg and Brandon.
