MAYORAL candidate Rav Gill has pledged to establish a gay village in Winnipeg, increase the number of downtown surveillance cameras and improve Handi-Transit service if he’s elected mayor on Oct. 27.

Gill, a real-estate agent and property manager, announced Monday he would use tax incentives to establish a gay village in the Spence neighbourhood or somewhere “closer to downtown.”

He also pledged to improve downtown safety by installing more surveillance cameras and L.E.D. lighting. He had no dollar estimate for the cost.

Gill also promised to improve Handi-Transit and said he supports light-rail transit, provided Ottawa provides more money.

The real-estate agent is the choice of one per cent of Winnipeg voters, according to a Probe Research poll completed last week.

Judy Wasylycia-Leis and incumbent Sam Katz are in the lead, with 50 and 47 per cent voter support, respectively.

Real-estate agent Brad Gross had two per cent. The margin of error was 4.7 per cent.
