Flat tire on Father’s Day

On Sunday mornings my friends and I (all seniors) enjoy going for a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons after walking in Kildonan Park.

On June 19 (Father’s Day), my friend Betty and I were leaving Tim Hortons. I was the driver. I misjudged a curb and made too sharp a turn and hit it. My tire immediately went flat.

I drove down the road to Dollarama, and a truck with a young couple parked next to me. I summoned them, and the man asked what the problem was. His wife urged him to help us. (They were going to church across the road.)

He needed a tool to take off the flat and pump air into the spare tire. He started to go back across the road to the church to see if someone there had the tool.

He came back with the tools and another young man. There was also another young man in the parking lot who offered his services. These young men were going to church and also celebrating Father’s Day.

I want to thank Greg and the other two men (you know who you are). I offered them some money for their trouble, but they wouldn’t take any and said the good Lord sent them to us.

They were our angels. I hope you had a great Father’s Day in the end.

Grateful for kind Ken

I would like to thank a Good Samaritan named Ken who stopped to help me when I fell on the sidewalk on Henderson Highway across from McIvor Mall on Monday, June 13.

I pole-walk every morning, usually with a couple of friends, but that day I was on my own. I tripped on some broken sidewalk and couldn’t get up. I’m 78 years old and have had both hips replaced, so I was concerned I might have broken something.

I couldn’t get up while lying on my back, and when I tried to turn over, I started to shake badly and decided to rest before trying again.

Ken saw me lying there, stopped his truck, ran back to me and then called 911. He was so kind — he drove me home after the paramedics checked me over, took me up to my apartment and made sure one of my neighbours stayed until a friend could come over and stay.

Bless you, Ken. I am so grateful, and so is my family.

A big help with boxes

On Wednesday, June 22, I was standing outside IKEA with my purchases, waiting for a staff member to help load two heavy and rather awkward boxes into my car, when a very kind lady offered to help me because the staff was busy with other customers.

With her help, we managed to get the boxes safely loaded, and I was on my way. Your kindness made my day. Thank you so much.
