If you’re driving with illegal drugs and more than $200,000 of ill-gotten gain, the last thing you should do is put the pedal to the metal while cruising through Manitoba on the country’s main highway.
But RCMP say that’s what happened last Thursday when traffic officers pulled over a 2017 Dodge Durango driving 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone west of Carberry.
In addition to the cash, a small amount of marijuana was found inside the vehicle, RCMP said Tuesday.
Winnipeggers Justin Poitras, 28, and Lea Murrell, 30, and Darren Gurniak, 50, of Port Coquitlam, B.C., have been charged with drug possession and proceeds of crime over $5,000.
RCMP Insp. Ed Moreland, who is in charge of traffic services in Manitoba, said “attempting to transport proceeds of crime on our roadways is a costly proposition.”
“Proceeds gained from criminal acts have no safe passage in Manitoba as we will enforce the laws to the fullest extent.”
The investigation is ongoing.
