Revisit a classic fairy tale

See Victorian-era story The Princess and the Goblin come to life on stage at Centennial Concert Hall, 555 Main St. Directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp, this 82-minute fairy tale turned ballet tells the story of brave Princess Irene, who rescues several children from the evil Goblin. The show begins at 2 p.m. Single tickets are now on sale, ranging from $40 to more than $100. For more information, visit rwb.org or call 204-956-2792.

Fly to the moon

Take your children, nieces, nephews, or siblings on a wondrous adventure to see Toopy and Binoo and the Marshmallow Moon. Taking place at Pantages Playhouse Theatre, located at 180 Market Ave. East, the show follows best friends Toopy and Binoo as they take off on what is expected to be “their most important musical quest ever!” There will be two shows, one at 1 p.m. and one at 4 p.m. For more information, visit toopyandbinooontour.com or call the Pantages Playhouse Theatre at 204-989-2889.

Buy locally made creations

Support local craftmakers by attending the Uniquely Manitoba Art Extravaganza at Centre Court in the Forks. Want to give someone special a handmade present? The artists are accepting custom orders just in time for the holidays. For more information, contact the Forks at 204-942-6302.

Watch a soccer game

Cheer on the Winnipeg Wesmen soccer team as it plays its final regular season home match against the UNBC Timberwolves. The game is at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex, 900 Waverley St., at noon. For more information, call the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre at 204-786-9349.

Discover Brazil

Soak up the sounds of Brazil at the Discovering Brazil concert at Park Theatre, 698 Osborne St. Acts include Marco Castillo, Gilles Fournier, Curtis Nowosad, Scott Senior, and Sheila Castillo. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. For more information, call Park Theatre at 204-498-7275.

Run, then read

Watch your fellow Winnipeggers participate in Ted’s Run for Literacy, a fundraiser in honour of Ted Swain, an English teacher and runner. Proceeds raised from the run go to Start2Finish, an organization that promotes literacy and active lifestyles in Winnipeg schools. The run starts at 10 a.m. at Kildonan Park. For more information, go to tedsrun.com.

Go where the wild things are

Imagine yourself as a kid again at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People’s production of Where the Wild Things Are, a book originally written by Maurice Sendak. Not only will the actors create the experience for the audience, but they will also ask for their participation throughout the 60-minute play as well — a definite bonus for the little ones in attendance. For more information, including ticket prices, visit the MTYP website at mtyp.ca.
