Active-transportation changes the city is implementing in River Heights had readers pushing their pedals to the metal.

I drove down Grosvenor on Sunday afternoon, and the conversion of the four-way stops to circles has vastly improved the ability to get from one end of River Heights to the other.

I am all for more bike lanes and better planing for active transportation as I spend a lot of time on my bike. However, it sounds like the city did not do their homework in a number of areas. We cyclists don’t need more angry drivers trying to run us off the roads. The city would be better off cutting out the weed-infested boulevards and making bike lanes out of that. Grass doesn’t grow in that salty soil.

I think Winnipeg needs more of these. I’ve been arguing for years that every puny little side street doesn’t need its own access onto a more major street. Winnipeg has way too many intersections and this is a way to reduce them.

Wow, what a surprise, a bunch of Winnipeggers protesting change. Who would have thunk it. I think it’s time to put a dome over the city and cut off contact with the rest of the world. Then it can be the same every day, forever.

Unlike the traffic circle on Waterfront, all the ones in River Heights are silly. They are too small and with traffic coming from both ways, it can take a lot longer to get a safe opportunity to enter the circle than to make a full and legal stop. The one on Waterfront is a traffic circle, the ones in River Heights are an obstacle. They gotta go.

I biked down Assiniboine on Friday evening and can’t tell you how awesome it was. Same goes for the bike lanes on Bannatyne and McDermot between Sherbrook and King. And the roundabouts on Fleet and Grosvenor make driving down those streets enjoyable. I say bring it on. The more the better.

Enough with all the bike paths already. It’s time to put toll booths up on these bike paths and start to get some of our money back and put into the roads that are so desperately crumbling all around us.

Bike paths make driving more difficult? HUH?!! Wow. Jeez, no wonder our society is so obese. Lets just all trade our legs in for a set of motorized wheels because walking and biking is too difficult.
