He’s no longer acting – Wade Miller is officially the Winnipeg Football Club’s president and CEO.

The CFL team made the announcement this morning.

Miller, a former Winnipeg Blue Bomber player and a successful business owner in the city, was appointed as acting CEO of the Bombers on Aug. 9.

TREVOR HAGAN / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Wade Miller was formally introduced as the CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Monday afternoon.

Board of directors chairman Brock Bulbuck said Miller “has proven himself to be a strong, progressive leader with the right combination of football and business experience to succeed in this important role.

“What we have seen in Wade since he became Acting CEO is a decisive, solution-oriented leader who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and get down to the hard work of turning the Club around. We have seen that from the very first day he was appointed and we have every confidence that he will continue to make the kind of change that will position us with a competitive team and successful business office well into the future,” he said, in a statement.

Miller said he’s honoured to lead an organization that has been such a huge part of his life.

“This club is in my blood,” said Miller, in a statement. “I won’t rest until I set things right with fans and that means putting a competitive product back on the field that is capable, in the years ahead, of restoring the pride in this once storied franchise. That is what we owe our fans and that is what I’m 100 per cent committed to doing.”

Miller will have complete autonomy when it comes to hiring a permanent GM for the team, board chair Brock Bulbuck said at a press conference on Tuesday. He will not require board approval.

Bulbuck would not disclose the term length of Miller’s contract, though he said it was a very standard length for such a position.

The move to make Miller permanent came earlier than the board originally anticipated, Bulbuck said, but they felt it would help answer questions about the stability of the organization as Miller looks to install the permanent GM, and possibly new coaching staff after that.

The new GM — current acting GM Kyle Walters is in the running — will be tasked with choosing the head coach, Miller confirmed.
