A nervous day lies ahead for the Winnipeg Jets — another one of their defencemen is banged up.
Blueliner Grant Clitsome managed to play the entire 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at the MTS Centre, but was missing from practice today.
Often, coach Paul Maurice will afford a regular skater a “maintenance” day and excuse him from practice, but Maurice said after today’s workout downtown that Clitsome was being checked out today and that he wouldn’t have any updates on the matter until Monday, since there was such a wide range of possibilities.
The Jets meet the San Jose Sharks here Monday night.
Winnipeg is already without defencemen Toby Enstrom, Zach Bogosian, Jacob Trouba and Mark Stuart due to long-term ailments. The earliest any of them may return is later this month, when Enstrom and Bogosian are projected to rejoin the lineup.
Clitsome, who has been paired with newcomer Jay Harrison since just before Christmas, played 20 minutes 20 seconds on Saturday night.
Monday’s game finishes a four-game homestand for the Jets, who are 20-12-7 through 39 games.
The Sharks, 20-14-5, trail the Jets by two points in the Western Conference standings.
