★★★ Bogdan Yakimov, Oilers: A goal and an assist and the perfect foil to Tkachev’s creative madness.

ELECTRIC EVANDER:

Jets winger Evander Kane had the fans off their feet twice in a short span in the first period. First he was sprung and broke in alone on Oilers goalie Laurent Brossoit, narrowly missing on a tight deke. Kane was tugged from behind by Jordan Eberle and a penalty shot ensued. Kane moved in again on Brossoit and rang a shot off the goalpost.

REMEMBER ME?

Matt Halischuk, what with all the talk about the kids vying for work at this training camp, has been a bit of a forgotten man but he poked management in the eye last night with a strong game. Halischuk has never skimped on effort and he also finished a nice feed from Kane to score Winnipeg’s second goal.

JACOB AND MO:

Fans and media alike were drooling at the prospect of seeing Jacob Trouba and rookie Josh Morrissey play together as a defence pairing and while they may be a top unit it the future, they struggled mightily on Wednesday. Trouba got caught pinching and left Morrissey alone on a 2-on-1 that resulted in an Edmonton goal. Morrissey got caught out of position in his own zone and could only watch as the Oilers swept by and popped a goal.

UP NEXT:

The Jets hit the road to face the Minnesota Wild, Saturday, 7 p.m. (TSN 3/TSN 1290) in game three of their seven-game pre-season schedule.
