Miettinen or Wellwood likely to play
THE Jets travelled Sunday and will be back on the ice for practice today in south Florida.
They meet the Florida Panthers on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. CT, TSNJets, TSN1290) to start a four-game week on the road.
It will likely become clearer today who will move into the lineup with the injury Saturday to rugged winger Anthony Peluso.
In thumping Washington's Aaron Volpatti in a first-period fight, Peluso has likely suffered a broken bone in his hand, though the Jets wouldn't specify the injury.
They only said after Saturday's game that Peluso has an upper-body injury and will be out week-to-week. That time frame is usually code for a longer-term absence.
Coach Claude Noel's options will be to use Antti Miettinen, who has played all of one shift this season, or Kyle Wellwood, who has been a healthy scratch for four straight games.
Miettinen missed the first 17 games of the season after suffering an injury on the first day of the January training camp.
He returned just over a week ago in New Jersey but took a puck to the private parts. He missed the next three games but was cleared to practise and play later last week.
Get ready for awesome power play
THE Jets' lack of power-play success has been an issue since early February but is getting a lot of attention now.
The team has one advantage goal in the last 12 games (meaning it has fired blanks in 11 of those games) and is one for 32 in that time.
We're repeating here, but in addressing the matter after Saturday's loss to Washington, Jets coach Claude Noel departed his news conference -- one that included an extended discussion about power plays -- with this gem of optimism: "We'll move on. We'll turn the page. We're going into Florida to win all the games ... and score 45,000 power-play goals."
Kane streak snapped at 8
JETS left-winger Evander Kane wasn't without his foreceful moments last week in two homes games -- he had six shots on goal vs. the Caps and four vs. New Jersey -- but came up pointless in both outings.
That was on the heels of Kane's then-longest-active NHL points streak, which carried over eight games.
Pavelec not setting loop on fire
AS of late Sunday, on the list of 15 NHL goalies who have made at least 15 starts this season, Jets' Ondrej Pavelec ranked 14th in save percentage... Pavelec, 8-10-1 this season, has a save percentage of .900...Winnipeg's string of scoring first in games ended at seven on Saturday when the Caps had the first goal at the MTS Centre in the second period.
