About the kings
- The Kings and Jets arrive at Game 82 of the regular season in opposite spots from a year ago. The Jets are out and the Kings are in the playoffs, and can wrap up the Pacific Division title tonight with a victory. L.A. is two points ahead of the Anaheim Ducks for top spot in the division, but the Ducks have two games left, today in Colorado and the Sunday make-up game in Washington. The Kings hold the ROW tiebreaker, so two points tonight would do the trick.
- C Anze Kopitar and his new contract extension comes into the finale as the team’s scoring leader for the season. Kopitar has 25 goals and 72 points and is an impressive plus-35 this season, which is tied for the NHL’s best with teammate Tyler Toffoli.
- Another category the Kings may take this season is goals against. L.A. is in the running for the Jennings Trophy, with 191 goals against so far. The Kings will be in no mood to concede anything to the Jets because of this as well.
- Thursday’s 2-1 home win over Anaheim featured just 19 saves by goalie Jonathan Quick.
- The Kings lead the NHL in another important department. They are 8-17-1 when trailing after two periods this season. No other team has reached eight wins in this situation this season.
- Head coach Darryl Sutter became the 15th coach in NHL history to coach 1,200 games when he reached that mark Monday.
