Montembeault shoulders blame for Canadiens 4-3 loss to Rangers

Jared Book, The Canadian Press 4 minute read Yesterday at 10:24 PM CDT

MONTREAL - After allowing three goals on six shots in the first 5:51 of the third period of the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday, goaltender Samuel Montembeault shouldered the blame.

The Canadiens held a 2-1 lead into the third period, but the three straight goals turned that into a 4-2 deficit at the time.

“I will take a lot of the blame,” said Montembeault. “I need to be better. It’s two games in a row I have a good two periods and then in the third it doesn’t go as well. The guys work hard and it’s up to me to make the saves.”

Montembeault allowed four goals on 22 shots Saturday, and it was the second straight game that he had that statline. Five of the eight goals have come in the third period.

Senators unhappy with bad habits, subpar record

OTTAWA - It may be early in the season, but the Ottawa Senators can’t afford to fall back into bad habits.

With a 2-4-0 record the Senators are less than thrilled with the first 10 days of their season.

Inconsistency, cheating for offence and an inability to play a full 60-minute effort is leading to early frustration for head coach Travis Green.

“A lot of things we took pride in last year we were good, we weren’t good (Saturday),” said Green.

ITF to change name to World Tennis in bid for ‘clearer identity’

The Associated Press 1 minute read Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025

LONDON (AP) — The International Tennis Federation will change its name to “World Tennis” as of 2026.

The switch was ratified Thursday by member national tennis associations voting at the governing body's annual general meeting.

“The change will provide a clearer identity that is more relevant to players, fans, partners and tennis stakeholders around the world, and brings the brand in line with a majority of sport’s most prominent global governing bodies,” the ITF said in a statement.

ITF president David Haggerty added: “World Tennis better reflects who we are today; the global governing body and guardian of tennis, working hard with our members to deliver tennis for life.”

Sinner and Fritz say the $6 million top prize at the Six Kings Slam exhibition offers motivation

There are some tennis fans who wonder why top players who complain about how crowded the sport’s calendar is would add an in-season exhibition like the Six Kings Slam, which starts Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, to their schedule.

Taylor Fritz can think of millions of reasons. Well, 6 million, to be precise.

“I’d love for them to show me a tournament where you can go play three matches — well, for the top two seeds, two matches — and potentially make $6 million,” Fritz said, his arms crossed during a video interview from Riyadh on Tuesday. “I’d love to hear that from them.”

Well, then.
