MUM’S THE WORD: Starter Steven, or back to Buck?
The Bombers continued to play the quarterback guessing game with the media Thursday, an exercise in secrecy that’s more comical against the backdrop of what’s happening on the practice field. QB Steven Jyles was a busy man at Rods Field, taking nearly all the snaps that mattered with the first-team offence. When Jyles wasn’t passing or running, Alex Brink took a few turns. The one person who wasn’t throwing regularly — Buck Pierce — was the subject of the questions posed to head coach Paul LaPolice after the workout.
“Buck’s doing well,” the coach said. “We had him moving around a little bit today, but with the rain we were just unsure of the stability with the grass field, so we kept him out of some stuff.”
The club wouldn’t tip its helmet on whether Pierce is even travelling to Steeltown or not.
“We’ll make announcements (today),” LaPolice said.
CHANGE OF PLANS: Scott McHenry’s original weekend schedule: Work out and watch the football games on television. Sitting on the practice roster for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the non-import receiver was not going to be travelling to Montreal with the Green Machine, so his schedule was pretty relaxed. Until he got word his address was changing.
“(Wednesday), there was a note in my locker after practice telling me to meet the general manager right away,” McHenry said. “(Brendan Taman) told me, ‘Looks like you’re going to be playing this weekend — but it will be for Winnipeg.’
Cut by the Bombers after training camp, McHenry will replace WR/KR Marcus Howell on the roster. The Canadian slotback will play on a few special-teams units.
— MEANWHILE, IN HAMILTON: As expected, P Justin Palardy and the Ticats have parted ways for the season. According to Drew Edwards of the Hamilton Spectator, the rookie non-import punter has returned to school and is officially suspended by the club (meaning the Tabbies retain his rights). Import P Eric Wilbur, signed Wednesday, will take his place on the roster… Quirky stat: Hamilton has scored four more points than Toronto (117-113) and allowed just four more points-against (153-149), but the Tabbies are stuck with a 1-4 record compared to the Argos’ 3-2 mark.

Something old, something new
Those returning to the Bombers’ lineup: DT Dorian Smith and P Mike Renaud. New faces include SB Scott McHenry, S James Green, WR Chris Davis and LB Bernard Hicks. DB/KR Deon Beazley could also be in as well.
Cut like a knife
DE Armond Willis, practice-roster receiver David McKoy and DB Donald Brown Jr. were all shown the door by the Bombers Thursday.
