TRUTH be told, some of the grinders on the Winnipeg Blue Bomber defensive line wanted another shot at Cory Boyd.

But Toronto Argonaut head coach Jim Barker made it official Wednesday: the Boatmen’s star running back will miss Sunday’s game against the Bombers after suffering a concussion last week.

And so the one ball carrier to eclipse the 100-yard mark against the Bomber defensive dozen this season — Boyd rushed for 109 and a TD in a Week 2 victory — is down for the count.

“He’s a great running back, but the way we look at it now, no matter who’s on the field we’ve got to go out and just do our job,” said defensive tackle Dorian Smith. “We can’t look at ‘ifs’ — if this, if that — we’ll just come out and prepare and not worry about who we’re lining up against.”

“I was looking forward to facing him again,” added Doug Brown. “It’s not that we were trying to exact some sort of revenge, it’s just we like playing against guys that talented. It’s a good challenge and we love trying to rise up against strong performers.”

The Argos, who have lost three straight, have undergone a mini-overhaul this week. Not only is Boyd out, but offensive tackle Rob Murphy (heel) and D-tackle Adriano Belli (foot) are day to day while SB Jeremaine Copeland may be activated from his elbow injury.

At the same time, new defensive end Ricky Foley practised for the first time as did defensive tackle Walter Curry (released by Jacksonville) with placekicker Justin Medlock having returned after his NFL stunt and shunning the Bombers. Looks like struggling kicker Grant Shaw will be moved to defence as a backup linebacker — a position he also played in college.

BLUE NOTES: Bombers were still waiting for a decision from RB Jesse Lumsden as of late Wednesday night… LB/DB Bernard Hicks was back taking reps with the defence on Wednesday and kicker Louie Sakoda was also back. The Bombers will stick with Justin Palardy this week… With Brady Browne (ankle) out, linebacker Chris Smith was taking reps at safety.
