WESTEEL Storage Solutions announced a strategic alliance Monday under which it will market Buhler Industries Inc. (TSX:BUI) grain-handling equipment through its Canadian distribution chain.
Products to be supplied by Buhler, which manufacturers the Versatile and Farm King brands, will include portable grain augers, grain cleaners and grain vacs.
“This is tremendous news — not just for Westeel and Buhler’s customers and employees — but also for Manitoba and Canada as it marks the coming together of two major Canadian agricultural manufacturers to become more competitive both internationally and domestically,” said Andre Granger, Westeel vice-president and general manager.
“This alliance will allow both companies to grow their respective brands and markets in new and exciting ways,” Granger added in a news release.
He said that further details about the alliance, including subsequent phases, will be announced at a later date.
Westeel, owned by Vicwest Income Fund (TSX:VIC.UN), has its head office in Winnipeg, as does Buhler. It has four production facilities in Western Canada as well as branch offices in St. Simon, Que., and Fargo, N.D, offering a wide range of steel storage products for farms and commercial operations, including custom storage solutions for the petroleum and industrial sectors.
Besides its agriculture equipment division, Buhler has non-agriculture operations primarily involving custom metal fabrication. It has manufacturing sites in Morden, Winnipeg, and Fargo.
