TORONTO — TD Canada Trust is joining CIBC in introducing Sunday hours to a number of retail branches across the country.

But Sunday banking at TD Canada Trust will be even more widespread, with the bank offering it at more than 300 retail locations.

In all, about 90 communities will have at least one TD branch open regular hours, plus noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, the bank said Thursday. The service starts Feb. 13.

CIBC began offering the service three years ago and currently has Sunday banking hours at 48 locations in 30 communities.

Canada Trust was a pioneer in introducing Saturday financial services to the Canadian marketplace more than 30 years ago while it was still independent.

Until then, most Canadian banks and trust companies were open five days a week, Monday through Friday.

TD Bank Financial Services (TSX:TD), which now owns Canada Trust, and most other Canadian banks have since extended their schedules to six days a week.

Customers are also able to use cash machines, phones, mobile devices and computers to access many banking services around the clock.
