JAIPUR, India — Comedian Russell Brand and pop singer Katy Perry flew to the Maldives on Monday after their wedding at a tiger reserve in India, while authorities investigated whether the wedding party broke noise laws.

Under tight security, the couple tied the knot Saturday at an exclusive resort strewn with colourful lights and flower garlands.

On Monday afternoon, the newlyweds boarded a helicopter near Ranthambhore National Park and arrived in the city of Jaipur, where they took a chartered flight to the Maldives, Jaipur airport director R.K. Singh said. The nation of tiny coral islands in the Indian Ocean is renowned for its high-end resorts.

Friends who arrived by road joined the couple on the flight, Singh said.

Locals had mixed feelings about the celebrity visit, and Rajasthan state’s chief minister on Monday ordered an investigation into public complaints about party noise that lasted into the early hours of Sunday, local district collector Ravi Kumar Surpur said. Local laws bar noise beyond 10 p.m. that would disturb local communities or wildlife.

The Ranthambhore National Park is home to tigers, leopards, wild boars and other animals. If laws were broken, the concerned parties or the resort management would be charged, Surpur said.

Also, two men from the wedding party apologized for assaulting four news photographers, including one from The Associated Press, then taking their car keys and stranding them in the wild tiger reserve Friday. The written apology acknowledged “physical assault” and “bad behaviour.”

Because of the apology, no formal police investigation was opened. None of the photographers sought medical care.

Local hoteliers and tour operators said the celebrity wedding brought positive attention to the tiger reserve.

The wedding “would only serve the cause of tiger conservation,” local hotel owner Balendu Singh said. “The event was a big success, and Ranthambhore would get enough mileage as a tourist destination.”

Brand, a 35-year-old British comedian and actor known for a drug-addled past and hedonistic tendencies, is next set to star as Trinculo in The Tempest and the title character in a remake of Arthur.

Pop star Perry turned 26 on Monday. Her second album, Teenage Dream, was one of this year’s bestsellers.

Police looking into robbery of children captured on video

The Winnipeg Police Service said it is aware of a video circulating online that appears to show two children robbed while walking home from the library.

The mother of the siblings said the Sept. 26 incident, which happened in the area of Andrews Street and Magnus Avenue at around 7:30 p.m., has left her children afraid and her feeling guilty.

“I should have been there with them. I felt horrible,” said Brittany Beaudet. “I would have been out the door if I knew any sooner to help them out.”

In the 40-second video, the two children, 14-year-old Mason and nine-year-old Kenzie, are approached by a man wearing a black shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Bombers ride Collaros’s arm to win over Stamps

Zach Collaros must’ve found the fountain of youth during his most recent absence.

Nobody has feared the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ passing attack all season, and yet, their veteran pivot aired it out early and often on Saturday night in a game they needed to win.

Led by Collaros and go-to target Dorian Singer, the Bombers prevailed 33-28 over the Calgary Stampeders in front of a sold-out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium to heavily increase their odds of making the playoffs.

“That’s vintage Eight-Ball right there. You love to see it,” said receiver Nic Demski. “Especially the opportunity that we had and him coming back this week, it was just a picture-perfect story.”

Piece of Winnipeg’s magic history disappears

Kelly-Anne Riess 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 9:38 PM CDT

A piece of Winnipeg’s magic history has vanished, and internationally renowned escape artist Dean Gunnarson is offering a $500 reward to anyone who can make it reappear.

The plaque marked the birthplace of what has become the world’s largest organization of professional and amateur magicians, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, which was founded in Winnipeg more than a century ago.

Gunnarson said fellow magician and local magic historian Bruce Thompson discovered the disappearance Tuesday while on his way to work.

Thompson returned to inspect the site and found what appeared to be evidence it had been forcibly removed.

Final hurdles are moving on in your mind and life

Maureen Scurfield 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:01 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I just ran into my former husband with his new woman. It was a shock. She looked nothing like me — not nearly as good. In fact, she’s the opposite of me — red-haired, freckled, tall and skinny like a rake. I’m short, dark, with golden skin from my Italian background. That was what my husband used to say he loved in a woman.

Does that mean he lied — that he really didn’t like my looks and secretly longed for the opposite? That seems crazy to me. But I should mention that in our last miserable years together he didn’t even want to hold me in his arms and look at me. He sometimes slept at his office (or so he said) because he was “too tired to drive home.”

He could have been elsewhere — like in some other woman’s home — because he always used his cellphone to call me, not his office line.

How can I forget about the man I loved so much and finally move on?

Towing company hands stolen car back, but not to owner

By Matthew Frank 4 minute read Friday, Oct. 9, 2026

A Manitoba man says he is dumbfounded after his car was stolen, impounded by a Winnipeg towing company and given back — to someone that wasn’t him.

Cody Lamb lives in the western Manitoba community of Douglas, about 18 kilometres east of Brandon, but spends weeks away from home working on oil rigs in Alberta.

The 24-year-old says on Sept. 11, while away for work, he heard from his girlfriend who told him his car wasn’t in their driveway. Lamb reported the car stolen to Brandon RCMP the same day.

After filing the report, he heard from Steinbach RCMP on Oct. 1 that his car was recovered that day in the community of Mitchell, roughly five km west of Steinbach.
