A day after the Paddlewheel Restaurant was set to sail away into the sunset, the Bay announced it will continue to be anchored in Winnipeg.
As numerous Winnipeggers emailed their memories about the iconic restaurant to the Free Press website, Strategic Objectives, the Toronto company that made the announcement for the Bay on Wednesday, sent out a statement Thursday saying, “It’s very encouraging to see how passionate Winnipeg is about the Paddlewheel.”
The statement went on to say the Bay wants to “ensure that there is no confusion about this announcement and reaffirm our commitment to the Winnipeg marketplace.
“Please be assured that the Paddlewheel is not closing down; it is being renovated and improved… with our sights set on the future, we intend to honour the history and tradition of the Paddlewheel as part of a much larger, progressive project.
“At this point, maintaining the ‘Paddlewheel’ brand for the Winnipeg restaurant is certainly our intention.”
No one from the Bay was available for comment.
