The pucks go on the ice Saturday for the NHL’s return to Winnipeg.

The 9 a.m. workout at the MTS Iceplex marks the first on-ice session for the 2011 Winnipeg Jets training camp.

The three Saturday practices, — also at 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. — will be among the limited opportunities the public will have to see the team in the early going.

Those sessions at the Winnipeg Free Press rink in the Iceplex are accessible to the public but the remainder of training camp practices and workouts starting Sunday at the MTS Centre will be closed to the public.

The team has three home exhibition games, Sept. 20, 28 and 30 and those will be the only other times before the Jets season-opener at home Oct. 9 that the public will be able to watch the team.

The team said Wednesday that its final training camp roster won’t be completed until Friday.
