Manitoba Liberals are calling for a bigger police presence and communty police stations in communities like Fort Rouge.

At an election campaign announcement Tuesday, Liberal candidate Paul Hesse said he would fight for an increased police presence in the area, which has been plagued by arson in recent months.

He noted that in recent days there was another arson, this time on Jessie Avenue, where a motorcycle was damaged.

Hesse, accompanied by party leader Jon Gerrard, said when funding was cut for foot patrols the local MLA, Jennifer Howard of the NDP, was silent.

“I will fight to have regular foot patrols funded to protect Fort Rouge,” he said.
