To help address the punting problems in Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers have brought in a little competition.
The club acquired non-import punter Jamie Boreham from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for future considerations, the team announced Monday. The 33-year-old will help push punter Mike Renaud, who’s struggled in recent weeks with both his distance and directional punting.
Renaud has punted a league-high 106 times this year, for a 42.1 yard average.

Boreham, a former Manitoba Bison, has played in 107 CFL games, punting 567 times for 23,230 yards for a 41.0 yard average. The Riders added him to the roster last month, but he had yet to see any game action this season.
Boreham has seen time with Hamilton, Saskatchewan, and Toronto in his eight-year career.
In other news, the Bombers officially announced the addition of import quarterback Michael Bishop to the practice roster Monday morning. It will be Bishop’s second go-around with the club, having joined Winnipeg for the 2009 season.
Bishop was actually added to the practice roster prior to last Friday’s game against Montreal.
The nine-year veteran has played in 129 CFL games in his career with Toronto, Saskatchewan, Calgary and Winnipeg, throwing for 11,772 yards and 66 touchdowns. Bishop has also rushed for 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns in that time.
Earlier this season, Bishop was with the Calgary Stampeders. He was released in August when backup quarterback Drew Tate returned from injury.
The 6-foot-2, 223-pound Kansas State-product joins the Bombers as an insurance policy down the stretch; a Plan B or Plan C should Buck Pierce, Alex Brink or even Justin Goltz fall to injury.
The Bombers (8-5) are back on the practice field Monday morning.
They’ll travel to Hamilton Thursday for a game against the Tiger-Cats (7-6) Friday night.
