THREE HIGHLIGHTS FROM 1979-80

1. The First Win: Oct. 14, 1979 – Winnipeg 4 Colorado 2

Craig Norwich scores twice, with singles by Jude Drouin and Peter Sullivan over Don Cherry’s Rockies.

“I can’t remember being so nervous,” said Drouin, then a 30-year-old veteran of 583 NHL games. “I felt like a rookie.”

2. Tuxedo Night: Dec.15, 1979 – Winnipeg 6 Montreal 2

The Jets knock off the fabled Canadiens in front of 15,723 and with Bobby Hull sent home by McVie for being late for the pre-game skate.

Said Habs’ head coach Claude Ruel: “You’ve got to give credit to the Jets. They played the game like they were playing for the Stanley Cup.”

3. Down Go The Bruins: Oct. 26, 1979 — Winnipeg 3 Boston 2

Jimmy Mann fights Terry O’Reilly, Al Secord and Stan Jonathan, Morris Lukowich scores twice.

“It was a classic… a real classic,” said Tom McVie. “The real winners tonight were the people lucky enough to have tickets.”
