Big picture

Thirteen goals against in three games, just five for. This, as Jets coach Claude Noel said Saturday night, is not a road the team wants to go down. The defensive vulnerabilities are certainly a big factor in the team’s 0-3 mark to date, leaving it still the only pointless outfit in the NHL.

Little picture

An ugly start — a giveaway in the first minute the turned into Daymond Langkow’s goal — and little pushback made this result pretty apparent after the first period, when the Coyotes were ahead 2-0. And through three games, the Jets have surrendered a power-play goal in each game, and scored not a one themselves.

Turning point

The first-period defensive-zone fire drill that was the preamble to Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s first goal of the game was pretty indicative of how the glue is not dry on what the Jets are trying to build.
