Like it or not, Willis part of defensive line rotation

BOMBERS defensive end Odell Willis continues to choose his words carefully when speaking to reporters about his situation, but his frustration with his reduced playing time in recent weeks continues to bubble to the surface anyway.

Willis sent out a series of four tweets in a 13-minute span about an hour before practice on Tuesday that seemed to make crystal clear that he is not happy with a new role that sees him play mostly on passing downs.

“100% injury free and ready 2 go! Let’s see what happens this week……#waiting,” Willis began.

Then there was this one: “They tryin 2 impeach the Mayor….#purecomedy,” Willis tweeted, referencing his self-appointment as the Mayor of Swaggerville.

For good measure, Willis added: “Come 2 far 2 let them stop this #GRIND.”

So what is Willis’s role on the team right now?

“He played on first down last week, he played on second down and we will continue to rotate him through with the other guys,” said Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice. “Doug Brown doesn’t see the field all the time. Part of our success has been rotating guys. I had a good talk with him (Monday) and said get up and ready to go. And he will be.”

Elliot anxious to return

WITH Buck Pierce not expected to dress this weekend in Calgary, there’s been some question about who the Bombers will dress as their third quarterback.

Head coach Paul LaPolice put to rest any suggestion the Bombers might make a move to bring someone in. “We’re not sure whether he will dress or not,” LaPolice said of Pierce. “The likelihood is not. And Brandon Summers will go on the roster.”

Summers, 25, is a rookie out of Youngstown State who the Bombers signed as a free agent in late June.

One man who would love to go on the roster this week — and might yet again before the season is over — is Joey Elliott. The injured Bombers backup — he tore his ACL in the first month of the season — has begun running during practice the past week and is also now throwing in light sessions.

Elliott said this week would probably still be too early for him to return to the roster, but he is not ruling out the playoffs. “If it was up to me, I’d put a brace on and suit up in Calgary,” said Elliott. “But we’ll see. The Grey Cup is what, 27 days away? A lot could happen between now and then.”
